1. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO INSTALL THE MIGHTY MODULE™ AND MIGHTY MODULE 2™?
Installing either Mighty Module is a simple task. Simply replace the stock points and condenser with the electronics module and magnetic trigger disk. Five minutes and a screwdriver is all you need!

2. WHY IS THE MIGHTY MODULE™ SO SMALL, ISN'T BIGGER BETTER?
The Mighty Modules™ size may be deceiving. It's actually a lot "bigger" than what it looks, it's the biggest in terms of energy. The Mighty Modules™ use a power transistor that is four times larger than any of our competitors. COMPU-TRONIX™ uses the latest in micro circuitry design to pack the biggest punch into the smallest package.

3. SINCE I INSTALLED THE MIGHTY MODULE™, MY ENGINE WON'T START? WHAT IS HAPPENING?
Assuming that the applicable kit has been correctly installed per the instructions and that the engine was in good running condition prior to installation, perform the following:

  • 1. Check all wire connections to ensure good connectivity.
  • 2. Check input power voltage at the red wire. It should be at 12-14 volts. (???)
  • 3. Check the distributor for proper grounding.
  • 4. Check the air gap between the module and the magnetic trigger disk. It should be .030"-.125".

4. CAN I CHANGE THE LENGTH OF THE MIGHTY MODULES™ WIRES?
Yes, the module wires can be lengthened or shortened as necessary. Be sure to solder and shrink wrap any wire connections.

5. WHAT SHOULD I GAP MY SPARK PLUGS AT?
The Mighty Module™ will support a spark plug gap consistent with OEM specifications. The Mighty Module 2™ and DIS™ ignition systems can support spark plug gaps up to .050" on naturally aspirated engines. Typically, use as large a gap as possible to ensure the biggest and hottest spark without inducing misfires.

6. CAN I USE A CD IGNITION WITH THE MIGHTY MODULE™? HOW WOULD I WIRE IT?
Yes, capacitive discharge ignition units can be used with the Mighty Module™. Install both systems according to their respective manufacturer's instruction manuals.

7. WHAT SIZE COILS CAN I USE WITH MY NEW MIGHTY MODULE™?
The Mighty Module I™ is designed to be used with coils that have a primary resistance of 2.5-4.0 Ohms. The Mighty Module 2™ uses a larger power transistor and works with coils that have a primary resistance as low as .4 Ohms to provide maximum ignition output energy.

8. WHAT IF I USED THE WRONG COIL WITH MY MIGHTY MODULE™?
Mighty Module I & 2 are designed to be matched with specific coil sizes. The Mighty Module I™ is designed to be used with coils that have an internal resistance of 2.5-4.0 Ohms. Using a coil with a lower resistance will overheat the coil and severely stress the ignition system. The Mighty Module 2™ uses Dwell Control to provide maximum energy output without overheating high performance low resistance coils. It can be used with any coil that has a resistance as low as .4 Ohms. Primary coil resistance MUST be checked when using either of the Mighty Modules™. To check the coils primary resistance, use a multi-meter set to check Ohms(?) and touch one probe to the coils positive terminal while using the other probe to touch the coils negative terminal. Ensure that the coils primary resistance is within the specifications listed BEFORE installing and using a Mighty Module™. Mismatching the Mighty Module™ and coil may damage the unit which will void the warranty. For this reason, COMPU-TRONIX™ recommends using the COMPU-TRONIX Rx-1™ coil for the Mighty Module 1, and the COMPU-TRONIX Rx-1t™ Coil for the Mighty Module 2™ for an easy, trouble free installation.

9. WHAT APPLICATION CAN BE USED WITH THE COMPU-TRONIX Rx-1™ COIL?
The COMPU-TRONIX Rx-1™ Coil has a primary resistance of 3.0 Ohms and can be used with the Mighty Module I™ for most applications.

10. WHAT APPLICATION CAN BE USED WITH THE COMPU-TRONIX Rx-1t™ Coil?
The Rx-1t™ Coil has a primary resistance of .4 Ohms and should be used with the Mighty Module 2™ in applications requiring higher ignition output energy.

11. HOW DO I CHECK MY COILS RESISTANCE?
Set your multi-meter to a low range Ohms (?) adjustment and measure the resistance across the positive and negative terminals of the coil.

12. WHAT IS DWELL?
Dwell is the period of time that the ignition coil is being energized before the high voltage pulse is sent from the coil to the spark plug. Dwell is normally measured in degrees of distributor rotation.

13. WHAT IS DWELL CONTROL?
Dwell Control is a simple solution to the dwell limitations that exist in a standard ignition system. Using the latest in digital microprocessors, COMPU-TRONIX™ has developed a Dwell Control system that precisely controls the coil re-energizing time to maximize the ignitions systems energy output. The COMPU-TRONIX™ Dwell Control system automatically adjusts to compensate for variances in engine speed, battery voltage, and temperature to provide better high rpm operation and overall performance. Dwell Control also provides for an automatic shut down feature.

14. WHICH COMPU-TRONIX™ IGNITION SYSTEMS HAVE DWELL CONTROL?
The Mighty Module 2™ and all of the DIS™ systems have Dwell Control. It is a true and advanced system of dwell control that keeps the peak coil energy between 96% and 100% of maximum over all possible variances.

15. DO THE COMPETITOR'S SYSTEMS HAVE DWELL CONTROL?
No. None of the Compu-Fire models have any form of Dwell Control. The Pertronix Ignitor II has a pseudo control. The dwell changes but it is not true dwell control as indicated in their published graphs.

16. WHY DOES A SPECIAL COIL HAVE TO BE USED WITH A DWELL CONTROL SYSTEM?
Since Dwell Control eliminates the problem of excess charge time at low rpm a much higher energy coil can be used. Typically a coil that triples the ignition energy can be used. Since there is no fall off in energy with rpm, the output energy at high rpm (where you need all the ignition you can get) is five to six times that of a system without dwell control!!

17. WHAT IS AUTOMATIC SHUT DOWN?
If the ignition switch is left on when the engine is not running, the ignition system components can be destroyed through overheating, as well the battery discharging. The COMPU-TRONIX™ automatic shut down feature automatically turns the ignition system off- one second after the engine stops turning.

18. WHAT LIMITS THE MAXIMUM ENERGY THAT AN IGNITION SYSTEM CAN PRODUCE?
From an electronic standpoint, nothing. From a practical standpoint, after a certain maximum limit, more ignition energy does not improve combustion or horsepower. More energy does nothing more than put added stress on all of the components of an ignition system. The weakest link in a single coil system is the arcing between the distributor cap and rotor electrodes. These components will deteriorate rapidly in a very high energy system. To obtain very high energy and retain durability a DIS™ (Distributorless Ignition System) that eliminates the cap and rotor must be used.

19. WHY IS THE COMPU-TRONIX DIS™ CALLED DISTRIBUTORLESS WHEN IT STILL USES A DISTRIBUTOR?
In early ignition system terminology the distributor got its name because it "distributed" the spark to the various cylinders by means of a rotating rotor and equally spaced cap electrodes. However, the distributor also performed another function, and that was ignition timing. It caused the spark to occur at the correct time. The COMPU-TRONIX DIS™ is called distributorless because the "distributor" does not distribute the spark. It is used only for ignition timing. The distribution of the spark to the correct cylinder is achieved by sequentially firing multiple coils.

20. WHY CAN THE COMPU-TRONIX DIS™ DELIVER EVEN MORE ENERGY THAN A DWELL CONTROL SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY AT HIGH RPM?
There two basic reasons. First, the elimination of the "weak link" in a single coil system, the arcing at the gap between the rotor and cap electrodes, allows the energy to be increased to levels that would rapidly deteriorate these components. Second, even single coil systems with dwell control run out of available charge time at high rpm. In an eight cylinder engine the coil must be charged and discharged four times every engine revolution. The coils in a DIS™ system must be charged and discharged only once every engine revolution regardless of the number of cylinders. Thus there is ample time to fully charge them even up to 12,000 rpm!

21. ARE THERE ANY OTHER ADVANTAGES TO THE COMPU-TRONIX DIS™?
The elimination of the arcing in the distributor eliminates the need to vent the distributor. This allows the DIS™ to be a totally enclosed system. It is immune to adverse environments such as dust and salt air, which makes it an ideal system for marine applications. The COMPU-TRONIX DIS™ is a true maintenance free "install it and forget it" setup and represents the latest generation in ignition systems. Ask yourself a simple question: Why have all of the automotive manufactures, which have virtually, unlimited engineering expertise, gone to Distributorless Ignition Systems on all of their vehicles?

22. HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO INSTALL A COMPU-TRONIX DIS™?
It is much easier to install than many single coil systems! It is as close to "bolt on" as you can get. All connectors are factory installed and all components easily mate to existing engine components. A built in LED static timing light makes it easy to orient the distributor and a separate tach drive makes connecting to a tachometer simple. There is a tachometer drive connection. A factory installed connector mates the control module to the coil insuring a correct connection. There are only two wires from the vehicle to connect; the 12 volt ignition switch wire and the tach wire!
